Climbing Kilimanjaro was never on my “Must do list”. In fact there were plenty of other trips that were well above my interest in Kili, but when family friends reached out and asked if I wanted to do it, I said why not! And the more I wrapped my head around the thought of actually climbing Kilimanjaro and the accomplishment of doing so; I became more and more excited. I pictured how fun it would be sleeping under the stars, and the satisfactory feeling I would have when I stood on top of the mountain getting my picture taken next to the congratulations sign on top of the world. It would be great. And it was. It was also the hardest thing I have physically ever done, as well as mentally, but it was worth it all once you reach the rooftop of Africa. This trip was far better than I could have imagined. I never planned to hike Kilimanjaro, but sometimes you can’t plan everything, you just have to take what life is giving you and roll with it.
